Rooted in Dentistry: A Legacy of Care Across Generations

Dr. Tony Meares founded our practice in 2001 after completing his endodontic residency in Detroit, Michigan. His passion for dentistry started early, shaped by years spent in his father’s dental office in Virginia Beach. Dr. James Meares practiced as a general dentist for over 40 years, and Tony grew up watching him care for patients, manage a practice, and navigate the challenges of running a dental office. Whether it was observing procedures, helping around the office, or listening to stories about patients, Tony developed a deep understanding of the profession long before entering dental school. His father’s dedication to his work left a lasting impression, instilling in him the importance of precision, integrity, and patient trust—values that continue to define his approach to endodontics today.

In 2018, Dr. Meares partnered with Dr. Adam Becker, and the practice became Meares Becker Endodontics. Like Tony, Adam grew up immersed in dentistry, spending time in his father’s office in Newport News, where Dr. Sidney Becker practiced as a general dentist for 41 years. Watching his father diagnose problems and relieve pain sparked his interest in dentistry early on. Those experiences gave him an appreciation for the blend of science, skill, and compassion the profession requires—values that continue to shape his approach to patient care today.

Together, Dr. Meares and Dr. Becker are dedicated to the specialized field of endodontics—preserving natural teeth, diagnosing complex dental pain, and providing relief through advanced root canal treatments. They recognize that tooth pain can be disruptive and distressing, and they focus on accurately identifying the source of discomfort while offering the most effective treatment options. Their expertise in root canal therapy allows them to save teeth that might otherwise be lost, restoring function and comfort for their patients.

When developing treatment plans, Dr. Meares and Dr. Becker always consider how they would want to be treated in similar circumstances. While preserving a natural tooth is often the best option, they believe in providing transparent information and recommending the most appropriate treatment for each patient’s unique situation.

With over 40 years of combined experience, Dr. Meares and Dr. Becker have built a trusted reputation in the Hampton Roads dental community. Having grown up in dental families, their understanding of patient care began long before their own careers in endodontics. Watching their fathers serve their communities as general dentists instilled in them a deep appreciation for the impact of quality dental care.
